VINITY OF  VINITIES

This series of still life installations is inspired by Vanitas and explores the theme of time. I draw symbolic elements from Dutch still life paintings to reflect on impermanence and mortality. Time, for me, is both subject and medium. I work with organic materials, allowing them to decay and leave behind unique “traces of life.” These natural imprints become part of the painting process, where change and erosion are acts of creation.

The installation incorporates candles, fresh flowers, and ashes from burned instruments—objects that echo the transience depicted in historical Vanitas works. Through these elements, I investigate how time shapes life and identity.

Influenced by nihilist and existentialist thought, the work encourages viewers to reflect on their own presence and to look beyond the surface of worldly appearances.
